Head of Centres for Excellence in Mathematics (CfEM)
£55,000 to £68,000 per annum pro rata

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) helps ensure that the Further Education and Training sector develops world class leaders, teachers and trainers. We work across the whole FE sector and are funded by Government grant, commercial contracts, professional membership (The Society for Education and Training - SET) and accreditation fees and a variety of other business activities.
We are now looking to appoint a Head of Centres for Excellence in Mathematics (CfEM) on a fixed term contract who will:
- Lead delivery on the ETF’s Centres for Excellence in Mathematics project
- Oversee the performance management of the contract to ensure milestones are delivered to time and budget
- Utilise expertise in support for maths teachers by contributing to the scoping and design process of each contract strand, ensuring high quality products are produced
- Build effective relationships with the Centres, the consortium partners and wider stakeholders
The role will report into the Director of Operations and will be responsible for:
- Leadership
- Content design, management, and delivery
- Stakeholder and consortium partner engagement
- Supporting our Project and Performance Management approach
- Leading the delivery of the Centres for Excellence contract. This will include leading the ETF team, heading the consortium partnership and being the day-to-day key contact for Department for Education (DfE)
- Making key decisions about delivery of the contract, drawing on the input from other ETF staff where required and communicating decisions to internal and external staff
- Overseeing the management of complex budgets and multi-strand project management
- Work with the consortium partners to lead the scoping and design of different elements of the programme. This could include CPD, resource materials, approaches to delivery
- Utilise expertise in Mathematics and in-depth knowledge of the FE sector to ensure that delivery meet objectives including setting up and running new elements
- Oversee the research and evaluation elements of the Centres programme, working closely with the National Research Advisor
- Ensure that the programme engages through use of consultation processes, expert advisory groups or equivalent expert led teams
- Build appropriate relationships with the leads in the Centres and consortium partners, supporting and engaging where required to ensure delivery of the contract KPIs
- Use existing personal FE sector network to ensure effective practice is shared across the Centres and the wider FE sector
- Building effective and productive working relationships with DfE’s contract leads
- Represent ETF at key DfE steering and working group meetings
- Provide accurate and timely status reports regarding milestones, progress against key performance indicators (KPIs), programme independencies, risks and issues.
The successful candidate will:
- Be educated to degree or equivalent qualification (Level 6)
- Have an Initial Teacher Training qualification (Level 5+)
- Have experience of managing government funded contracts, including operating and delivering reporting processes and liaison across supply chains and government department
- Understand maths education
- Have experience of designing and developing support for maths teachers
- Have experience of managing complex budgets and multi-strand projects
- Have strong presentation and account management skills
- Have experience of managing research and or evaluation activity
- Understand evidence-informed and effective practice in teaching, learning and assessment
- Be able to effectively form and sustain networks and relationships with other professionals
