The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) helps ensure that the Further Education and Training sector develops world class leaders, teachers and trainers. We work across the whole FE sector and are funded by Government grant, commercial contracts, professional membership (The Society for Education and Training - SET) and accreditation fees and a variety of other business activities.

We are now looking to appoint a National Head of Performance Management who will lead one of the Performance Management teams at ETF to achieve high performance levels. This role will focus on monitoring and management of the delivery of the ETF’s CPD offer for the Further Education sector.

The role will report into the Director of Operations and will be responsible for:

Leading the Performance Management team

  • Provide operational leadership of the team including line management of team members
  • Day-to-day management of the team including developing staff and improving performance
  • Work with the other National Head of Performance Management to create and manage a culture of continuous improvement across the teams
  • Ensure that line management reports are managing partners and any direct delivery so that we exceed minimum performance targets, checking on successful attainment of this requirement through regular performance reviews, coaching and using ETF’s appraisal approach

Leading performance management

  • Act as most senior lead on fulfilling the delivery requirements of grant and/or contract work for the area the role is accountable for
  • Support the grant or contract negotiation activity with the funding body policy leads
  • Ensure that relationships with senior contacts are built with important delivery partners to ensure there are appropriate escalation points
  • Proactively and strategically review performance on grant and contract activities to identify and then resolve any issues impacting on successful delivery

Managing our programme and project management approach to meet funder expectations

  • Build effective and productive working relationships with funders’ contract leads
  • Oversee the production of reports to engage with both the funder and for internal reporting requirements for boards and meetings
  • Ensure that there are robust performance management and delivery management plans in place to provide robust and correct management information and other qualitative reporting to the funder

Ensuring join up with key teams and colleagues across ETF

  • Represent the interests of the team and ensuring that key functions in the business meet the needs of the team through engaging with relevant Directors and Heads
  • Provide critique and appropriate feedback to relevant teams and make recommendations through our grant or contract delivery as part of our continuous improvement process
  • Work with ETF’s External Assurance Group and Expert Panels to ensure ETF’s delivery receives robust quality assurance

The successful candidate will:

  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Will be able to manage and drive performance improvement in grant or contract activity through delivery teams
  • Experience of leading teams effectively
  • Experience of performance and/ or contract management frameworks
  • Experience of business planning, budget preparation, budget management
  • Ability to reach decisions and judgments based upon a sound evidence base
  • Commitment to ETF income generation and commercial activity
